Ah si si.

Appena a nord del Financial District, nel Lower East Side di Manhattan, sorgono due celebri quartieri: Chinatown e Little Italy.
Per quanto il secondo ormai sia relegato nella sola Mulberry St. (il resto dell’ex Little Italy è stato inglobato in Chinatown), l’aria di casa si sente forte, principalmente nei ristoranti italiani con i loro tipici camerieri russi che ti invitano a entrare e si vergognano di averti scambiato per spagnolo.

A sud di Midtown si trova il Greenwich Village, quartiere artistico e colorato, celebre al mondo per essere il quartiere in cui è ambientato Friends.
Ancora più a sud c’è SoHo, un quartiere molto simile al Village, ma con più palazzi di ghisa.

Purtroppo questo Day Five è stato caratterizzato da pioggia più o meno intensa, che ci ha costretto ad abbandonare anzitempo il nostro giro per farci rifugiare nel MoMA, di cui non inserirò foto perchè non sono un figlio di puttana e se volessi uccidervi vi inviterei a casa mia a guardare le diapositive di New York.

Central Park d’autunno.
Onestamente, non penso esista qualcosa di più bello da vedere in una città. Forse la fioritura dei ciliegi a Tokyo. Ma io ci sono stato d’estate, quindi al massimo vedevo insetti grossi come gatti.

Ah e un sentito ringraziamento al MET (Metropolitan Museum of Arts) per l’esposizione temporanea dedicata al rinascimento italiano…

Il terzo giorno a New York è stato un po’ particolare.
Tra le defezioni varie di più o meno infortunati e persone che procedendo senza cartina – e senza seguire me – sbagliavano strada, abbiamo avuto ognuno occasione di esplorare qualcosa di diverso.
Il mio giro è partito dal City Hall, verso Battery Park passando per Ground Zero.

Infine abbiamo avuto la fortuna di fare il giro in battello al tramonto. Ownage.

Il secondo giorno a New York (in effetti il primo giorno vero e proprio) è consistito in un giro tra Lower e Upper Midtown, passando per la cima dell’Empire State Building (che dal 2001 è tornato l’edificio più alto della città), attraverso la 5th Avenue fino, lambendo Central Park, arrivando alle Nazioni Unite e chiudendo al Grand Central Terminal.

Parlare del viaggio di New York mi sembra un’impresa insormontabile. Finirei per scrivere un libro e non ho tempo né voglia di farlo.

Quindi mi limiterò a far parlare le immagini.

A voi il primo giorno: dall’arrivo al JFK fino al giro serale a Times Square. Cioè, mica cazzi!
